I'm going to use separate colours with info for players being in blue, black for GMs, the normal colour for displaying adjudications & then this colour for general info. First, let's start with the Gamestart however before that please note that this game is shown as though it's an Intimate Diplomacy game not the Hucknall Cup game. The only difference is the heading & to the GMs it's shown below.
Patrick Fitzgerald is playing Austria-Hungary & has 24 Credits. Gerald Fitzpatrick is playing Germany & has 20 Credits.
I await your bids for 1901.
England, France, Germany, Russia & Turkey starts with 20 Credits. Italy has 22 credits & Austria-Hungary, as shown above, begins with 24 Credits. The players can bid for any or all of the Mercenary Powers & the amount they can bid can be anything. Later on, you'll see how that develops.
Early in ID, you're not 100% sure which country you'll get as you've got to play them all in the tournament but later on your options reduce. Either way, you'll find out through the Gamestarts and perhaps other pieces of info sent out by the Divisional Head GM. BTW, never understand why people often call themselves Tournament/Competition Directors. It's not as though these things are Limited Companies.
If you've GMd on Dip2000 or Psychopath or both, you'll find out that are a few changes to the pages so please don't skip these pages or else you'll fall flat on your face & that is figuratively speaking of course.
To get this page on site you need to do a couple of things with the first being the text file showing the players for this game plus other info & then another text file, which is actually what you're currently reading, Gamestart.
As for showing the names' of the players & other info about the game, it's in a text file called global.txt. Within that file, YOU MUST have twelve lines & in this game, Two, it's shown below however as written above there is a difference between the tournament games & cup games. It'll be explained after you see what's used for this game:
Two
2
ID
Training
James Bond
N/A
Germany
Gerald Fitzpatrick
N/A
Austria-Hungary
Patrick Fitzgerald
N/A
Usually you would expect to see Germany after Austria-Hungary however Gerald Fitzpatrick is the home player & hence, listed first.
The meaning behind the lines is:
Line One = the name of the game. In IDII, the name was the names of the players, e.g. Richard v Carl, with ideally the first name being the Home country. In the example above it could have been Gerald v Patrick.
Line Two = the number of players & that is those playing not those & the fake names for the Mercenary Powers. It MUST always be 2.
Line Three = this line shows if this is going to be Intimate Diplomacy or Hucknall Cup. Type either ID (as shown) or Hucknall Cup dependant on the game.
Line Four = it's actually meant to be a Roman number with that relating to either the tournament number or cup number, e.g. II was used in IDII. For this game I wrote Training & I'm sure you can guess why.
Line Five = I'm not really thinking I'm 007...well...In there goes the name of the GM.
Line Six = the GMs e-mail address but if you do write your address, do yourself & player's a favour & write AT not @. Using AT stops silly twits from SPAMing e-mails to you.
Line Seven = the country the home player is playing.
Line Eight = the player's name.
Line Nine = the player's e-mail addr.
Line Ten, Eleven & Twelve is self-explanatory however if it's Austria-Hungary, please write that in full, not Austria.
The next text file to create is gamestart.txt. The following MUST be within that file:
< colon >START INFO
< colon >END INFO
< colon >START DEADLINE
< colon >END DEADLINE
NB I've had to write < colon > as opposed to : as actually in the file, gamestart.txt, it's : followed by the capital words. If I had written it, fun & games would have happened with this page, as the Application file would have done some silly things. Throughout this training game, expect to see < colon > as opposed to the other.
As mentioned earlier what you're currently reading is held within a file called gamestart.txt & this whole section was written within the < colon >START INFO to < colon >END INFO. Below you'll see an area where it states the Deadline & in this gamestart.txt, I simply wrote N/A. If you do take this to the next step & consider the training game called Two, what I've written in green goes within START INFO & END INFO.
Ok, if you're happy have a glance at this page & one of the areas is entitled Seasons. As I've completed a game for this training, you'll be able to see links to Gamestart, End Game Statements & between them the seasons that were played. If you're looking at games that are underway, you'll only be able to see what has happened & if this game was just started, Gamestart would only be there.
As for the maps, both the starting positions & provinces' abbreviations are always shown in the Web's Gamestarts. As for abbreviations, I do always think players should write them in full & in English, not the other languages as that isn't fair on GMs.
Best to press the link to Spring 1901.

As the game continues, the number of links, in the table, will increase from Gamestart through the Seasons to End Game Statements (EGS).
If you hold the Shift key down when you click on the link, a separate window will open without closing this page.
